A new baby cousin

January 29, 2008

My kids have a new baby cousin to play with. She is a pretty little girl with a very international name. Her first name is French, her middle name is Chinese, and her last name is Italian. She may very well work for the UN when she gets older.

Her Chinese middle name was picked by her Chinese grandfather and translates to “Beautiful Moon.” How awesome is that?! These are some new clothes and books we’re sending her. A princess can never have too many outfits. We can’t wait to see her and just eat up her chubby cheeks. Seriously, they are deliciously chubby. Yum.

Compasionate Mom moment

January 29, 2008

My 4 year old son: Mom! She’s (2 yr old daughter) stepping on my hand!

Me: So move your hand!

**some mornings my kids like to bother me with their constant whining and fighting. Sometimes I like to bother them back. Bad? More like self preservation.

I wish the best for this baby

January 28, 2008

I have no idea if this is the same baby girl I blogged about last October, but if it is, that means that she has still not found a family. And if it is another child with the same ailment, then she needs a family too. In a perfect world I would adopt her into our little family, but it seems pretty impossible and hopeless. So, please pray that she finds a wonderful, happy, loving home SOON!!!
She is listed in Holt International waiting child.
This sweet girl was abandoned when she was just one day old. In a report from June 2007, she can hold her head while prone, grasp toys, and follow you with her head. She is described as smart, and is attached to her caretakers. Her favorite activities are listening to music and playing with toys. Reportedly, she responds to her name and gets excited when she sees food. She is reported to have developmental delay, a “higher muscular tension”, and she is missing her left eye and her right cornea. This lovely girl is waiting for her forever family who has access to the medical resources that will change her life.

To adopt this child, applicants must be 30-54 years old and meet an income requirement of $30,000 plus $10,000 per additional family member, with $80,000 net worth. More than 4 children in the home may be accepted.* See country criteria for complete requirements.

A perfect Saturday morning

January 28, 2008

Saturday morning we went ice skating on the frozen pond at the end of our street. It was freezing cold but we all had so much fun.

It was my daughter’s first time on the ice. Big day for her.

My son absolutely LOVES to skate! He is trying so hard to learn. We bet he’ll be a great skater in no time at all.

A happy mother

January 22, 2008

I know a very selfless, wonderful, mother that I “met” through the world of blogging. She is the mother of 8 children, the youngest who is currently residing in China, but will soon join this terrific family in Georgia! (I guess they’re not New England Patriots fans. Well, they could be.)

Her name is Stefanie and she is running a raffle to raise money to get her youngest son home. I think it takes a very special family to share their lives with children they truly believe were placed in their path for a purpose, and I don’t mind helping them out in a tiny way one bit!

The prize is a Canon Rebel XTI camera, and tickets are $10 a piece. Isn’t it amazing that my camera is dying a slow tortured death as I type this? But, I know everyone is entitled a chance to win a new camera, so go for it!

You will find the link to the raffle on the right side bar. It took me a while to spot it. I know, I’m a little slow sometimes 😉

Satellite goodness

January 22, 2008

I was just checking out Simply Photo and noticed that she is in Brooklyn, NY. I have been meaning to do a drive-by of our old house in Brooklyn where I lived from 6 months to age 7, but it’s one of those things that I keep putting off because there are more important things to be done, ahem.
So I decided to satellite view my old address, and WOW. I completely forgot about the junior high school across the street! I used to play there! My Aunt went to school there! And I can see the corner candy shop!!!! Oh my goodness! And our back yard! Just as tiny as I remember it!
Made me feel warm all over.
Love those satellites.

New Furniture

January 22, 2008

Our camera is in the middle of a slow, tortured death, so these pics stink, but I still wanted to try out some pics of our “new” dining room furniture.

We got it at an antique shop near us last week. It is from the 1930s. My mom has an almost identical set that she was giving to me. That is until I told her we were bringing down a truck to get it. Then she changed her mind. SIGH. Oh well, I wasn’t going to throw myself on the floor and bang my fists and feet on the floor like my daughter does, so instead I went furniture shopping. I was totally thrilled when I found this set. It’s gorgeous, and very sturdy, but the wood is scratched in a few places. I think it gives it more character.

Peter and I were happy to finally unpack our china that has been stored in boxes since we got married, over 7 years ago. HA! Now we need an appropriate table and some curtains for the windows, a new light fixture, and the dining room will be done! Hope it gets done in less than 7 years. I’m trying to break our record.

He’s 4 years young!

January 22, 2008

Oh my gosh! I cannot believe he is 4! He was born 4 yrs ago via emergency c sec, and I was so happy that he was perfect and my labor was finally OVER!!!! Since that day I LOVE morphine and tell everyone about how great a pain killer it is.

We had a birthday party for him on Sunday before the Patriots game (which they won and will be in the Superbowl thankyouverymuch) and he had a great time!
During the party he came to me and said, “Everyone is having so much fun!” and after the party he said, “That was a GREAT party!”

There were 13 kids here ages 6 and under and boy were things QUIET after everyone left. You could practically hear the crickets.

I love kiddie birthday parties.

Do you not love the baby in the front crying? It cracks me up! She was just crying because her mother put her down for the photo.

Things are starting to look up

January 8, 2008
Both kids have been sick since December 22nd with the stomach bug and fever. No one has slept through the night since the 21st. No joke.

FINALLY things are starting to look up. Massive doses of Little Bear (that’s what they’re watching in the photo), Franklin, and Caillou has kept them from thinking about their sour stomachs too much. They are now both feeling better and hopefully we will all enjoy a good nights rest tonight.
I hope Donny and Marie are good sleepers.

Our Family has grown by a couple of inches…

January 8, 2008

We are very happy to introduce: Donny and Marie. Our new goldfish. Marie is wearing a white dress. Aren’t they beautiful?
Our other kids don’t want to have anything to do with the new additions (yet), unless it is feeding time. They do love handing out those fish flakes. And not to gloat, but these are the smartest fish in the entire world. I know you think I’m just saying that because I’m their mother, but no, really. Even the pet shop lady said so.
We’re so lucky 🙂
