California here we come!

We leave for CA tomorrow. Gonna be some good-lookin’ tourists for a week. Packing for a family of 4 has been exhausting, but I’m ready:
2 parents
2 kids
2 suitcases
2 carry-ons
2 car seats
a double stroller
and a partridge in a pear tree

couldn’t resist that last one.

Wonderful ordinary day

We spent most of the morning yesterday in the car running from one errand to the next. By the time we got home we were hungry and exhausted. My daughter napped for 3 hours!
But somehow we managed to spend the rest of the day having a wonderful ordinary day. It was just laundry, dishes, baking chocolate chip muffins with my son, and making dinner.
My son discovered my tiny sewing kit and played with it for nearly an hour (I took away the pins and needles of course). He unraveled a good amount of thread, but it was worth it I think.

This week’s list in no particular order:

Catch up on laundry
finish packing for San Fran.
pack diaper bag
get camera ready
extra batteries
children’s Tylenol and Dimetapp
Note to Joseph’s school for absence next week
hem pants
buy another toothbrush for Olivia
doc. appt on tues.

I know I’m forgetting about 10 things.

Coffee

The boy is in school, the girl is in her crib napping. I’m drinking coffee in my favorite Black Dog mug. All is well with the world.

My ears are bleeding, but there is always coffee

Today is one of those days that being a mommy sucks. The whining and fighting both my kids have forced me to endure today has made my ears bleed. Well, practically anyway. But, I have my mommy crack to save me : Coffee. Lots and lots of that delicious intoxicating hot liquid gold of the gods. MMmmmmmmmm, and can you smell how wonderful it is?
I’m leaving to take (yipee!!!) my son to school in a minute, but I will post pictures of my favorite legal mommy crack when I get back.

Good news update

Thanks for all the warm responses. Thankfully Thursday went very well. He had a great time and told me he wants to go back. Hopefully he will continue to like it and have fun.

Too hard.

Today I took my son to pre first day of school. It was only for 1 hour while the kids got to meet each other and their new teacher. I had to leave the room for about 10 minutes, and when I got back he was in a melt down. I wasn’t allowed back into the classroom so I could only observe. He was crying and shaking and coughing on his own tears. It really pissed me off that the teacher wouldn’t let me get him. UGH!! It just broke my heart. He’s only 3 1/2.
I hope he’ll be OK on Thursday, which is the real first day of school. He’ll be one of 16 students with 2 teachers. Last year he was in a class of 9 children, and he wasn’t thrilled by that. Now it’s almost double.
What’s motherhood without a little heartache, right?

A Lazy Sunday

This is my son at 6 months old. He would fall asleep during our morning walk and I would just wheel him into the house like this. He’ll be back in nursery school next week.
